Hebrews 10:10 (NLT)
For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.
Only one thing made the distinction between the Israelites and the Egyptians. For over 400 years, Egypt was all the Israelites knew. Joseph, who saved Egypt from famine, had been long forgotten and now many generations of Israelites had been born into slavery and oppression. The Israelites had grown accustom to the atmosphere and culture of their surroundings, sharing in the same foods and even worshiping the same gods. But on one particular night something made a huge distinction between these two people groups.
Moses had been raised up by God to deliver the Children of Israel from bondage, but Pharaoh’s heart was hard and each time he decided to let the Israelites go, he recanted. Now the LORD was going to pour out the last and final plague. God would place a demand on the “first” and every firstborn in the land, both man and beast, would die. Yet it would not be so for Israel. Exodus 11:7 says, “But among the Israelites it will be so peaceful that not even a dog will bark. Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites.”
So what was the distinction? It was only one thing: the blood of the lamb. Instructions where given by God for each household to consume a lamb that night and sprinkle the blood of the spotless animal on the top and sides of the doorpost of each home. Then, when the death angel came through, he would “pass over” each home that was covered by the blood.
You see, as Egypt represents the “world,” so the Israelites represent the “saved.” And the “saved” weren’t saved because of anything they did. It was only because of the blood of the lamb.
I’m no different than any other person who walks this earth. The only thing that gives me the rights, privileges, and benefits of Sozo Salvation is the Blood of the Lamb, Christ Jesus. It certainly is not because “I’m good and the world is bad.” There are times I’m not good at all. But what makes me distinct is the blood of Jesus Christ alone. His blood was shed for me on the cross and because I believe and have received His sacrifice for me, my life is covered by His blood.
If you’ve never applied the blood of Jesus to the door of your heart, then do so today by asking Him into your life. And, if you already have, then remind yourself today that you are distinct because of Him.
