SHINE

“Then Jesus asked them, ‘Would anyone light a lamp and then put it under a basket or under a bed? Of course not! A lamp is placed on a stand, where its light will shine’.” Mark 4:21

In Mark chapter four, Jesus talks a lot about small things becoming big. From the story of the seeds that fell on d

ifferent kinds of ground, to the illustration of the mustard seed, Jesus wanted His listeners to know that if the atmosphere is right and the heart is willing, then small things can grow into big things.

One key that Jesus mentions as necessary for this growth is “having ears to hear.” It’s obvious He wasn’t talking about our natural ears because we all have those. Instead, Jesus was talking about our spiritual ears. Ears that will allow our hearts to hear and receive the Good News and the Message of the Kingdom.

He later illustrates, in verse 21, how necessary it is that we not hide our light, but rather that our light be positioned where it can be seen and given the best opportunity to illuminate.  Just like the mustard seed, our light may start out small, but as we grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus, our light will get brighter and brighter, pointing the way to Him.

In the process of this growth, it’s so important that we are patient with ourselves and one another. Your light may not be as bright as it’s going to be, but more than likely it’s a lot brighter that it used to be, all because you’ve learned more and more about Him.

Today, rest in the truth that your seed and your light are growing every day and whatever you do, don’t let you’re light be hidden or dimmed, but let it shine!
