HUMANLY IMPOSSIBLE

“Jesus looked at them intently and said, ‘Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God’.” Mark 10:27

The whole congregation stared in amazement as the world’s one-time strongest man, Paul Anderson, had a whole group of men sit on top of a large, ruggedly-built wooden table. As everyone wondered if he would really be able to lift it, to my surprise, he reached over to the front row pew and grabbed me, a first grader, and stood me up on the center of the table. Then, sure enough, to everyone’s amazement, Mr. Anderson went underneath the table and did what seemed humanly impossible by lifting the whole thing up. Despite this amazing feat, even Paul Anderson knew that there was something even greater, that only God could do through Jesus, and Mr. Anderson dedicated his life to traveling from church to church to share this Good News.

When Jesus told the disciples that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a man to enter the Kingdom of God, they replied by asking,“Then who in the world can be saved?” Jesus replied by saying, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God.”

Think about that. Based on Jesus’ response, he was saying that there is no possible way for a man, in his own power or ability, to be saved from eternal damnation and to the abundant life. Jesus wanted to make it absolutely, abundantly clear that man could, in no way, save himself. It was just not humanly possible. It would take someone stronger and more powerful than man to make it happen, and the only person that could get the job done was Jesus.

Today, let’s not rely on our ability to save ourselves in any manner, but instead keep our faith and trust in Jesus and His finished work on the cross.
