LOVED AND ACCEPTED

“And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy’.” Matthew 3:17

Tim Tebow was one of those special athletes many just loved to watch play. According to Wikipedia, Tebow became the Florida Gator’s starting quarterback during the 2007 season and then became the first college sophomore to win the Heisman Trophy. In 2008, Tebow led Florida to a 13–1 record and its second National Championship in three years and was named the offensive MVP of the National Championship game. The Gators again went 13–1 in 2009, his senior year. At the conclusion of his college career, he held the Southeastern Conference’s all-time records in both career passing and total rushing touchdowns, appearing second and tenth (respectively) in the NCAA record book in these categories.

I’ve observed athletes excel on the field of play and noticed that many had something in common. As they marched up and down the field, got on base more often, or stood out on the court, there was most often someone in the stands, a mom, a dad, or both, cheering them on. There’s nothing like knowing you’re loved and accepted to help you do your best. Tim Tebow certainly played sports, from a kid to a pro, knowing that he was completely loved and accepted by his parents and family.

What David didn’t get from his earthly father or King Saul, he certainly got from his Heavenly Father and that was the love and acceptance he needed. 1 Samuel 18:12 says, “David continued to succeed in everything he did, for the Lord was with him.”

Even Jesus Himself, at the launch of His earthly ministry, having taken upon Himself the form and characteristics of man, needed that same love and affirmation that only His Father could give. Jesus received it as He was baptized by John.

Today, you can know with all certainly that you are deeply loved and highly favored by your Heavenly Father. As you allow that truth to sink down in your soul and spirit, let confidence come alive within you, knowing that you too are and will be successful because the Lord is with you.
