“Your unfailing love will last forever.Your faithfulness is as enduring as the heavens.” Psalm 89:2
How many times have you thought to yourself, “That really needs to change.”? Maybe you saw a change was needed in the life of someone close to you like a loved one, a child, a coworker or friend. Maybe you’ve felt that way about yourself, knowing that within yourself things needed to change. At the point of frustration, you may have asked yourself, “When will this area of my life ever change?” You know right from wrong, yet no matter how hard you’ve tried, with every attempt, you’ve only felt powerless to bring lasting change in that area of your life. Is there an answer?
Paul gives the answer to the Church at Corinth by explaining to them that right living and victorious living are not produced by keeping our focus on the law written on tablets of stone. The Ten Commandments that God gave Moses on the mountain certainly had a measure of glory to them, but in themselves were, and are, powerless to bring lasting change to one’s life. Those commandments, as glorious as they are, can only point out to us our shortcomings and failures. So, what is the answer for the one who so deeply desires to live victoriously, but lacks the power? The answer is only found in the combination of God’s love and God’s Sprit.
When we shift our focus from the law, which we can never fulfill or maintain, and get and keep our eyes on Christ, it is only then that transformational change can truly come. The veil that blocks our hearts and minds from focusing on the law, is lifted as we believe “in Christ.” When we put our faith and belief in what Christ has done for us through His finished work of redemption on the cross, the veil is lifted. Paul says in verse eighteen of 2 Corinthians 3, “So all of us who have had that veil removed can see and reflect the glory of the Lord. And the Lord—who is the Spirit—makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image.”
Today, let’s keep our focus on the finished work of Jesus and who we are in Christ, and as we do the Holy Spirit will bring the change.
