A GLORIOUS NEW WAY

“Shouldn’t we expect far greater glory under the new way, now that the Holy Spirit is giving life?” 2 Corinthians 3:8  Between 1886 and 1924, nearly 14 million immigrants entered the US through New York Harbor and the first thing they saw greeting them was the majestic Statue of Liberty, which has come to be known by many as “Lady Liberty.” What a glorious sight this must have been for them as they stood there in awe, eyes filled with tears. They came from different places and for different reasons. While some fled their country’s brutal regimes, others just simply[…]

KEEPING THE VICTORY

“Anyone with ears to hear must listen to the Spirit and understand what he is saying to the churches.” Revelation 2:29  I’ll admit, the Book of Revelation isn’t the easiest book to understand. But as it is with every Book in the Bible, there is always something for us to learn, which is why it is so important that we ask and rely on the Holy Spirit to help us comprehend the very words He Himself inspired. Jesus told us we could rely on the Holy Spirit to teach us and guide us into all truth. So, with that in[…]

HAPPY PEOPLE

“Happy are the people whose God is the Lord!” Psalm 144:15b During the height of election season, politicians make a lot of promises. And, regardless of who wins, only about half of the electorate is happy, while the other half is usually very unhappy. In addition, a portion of those voting for the winning candidate can find themselves in the unhappy group if the person they voted for doesn’t keep the promises they campaigned on, which can often lead to a one term politician. On the contrary, according to Psalm 144:15b, those who put their trust in the LORD are “happy indeed,” simply because the[…]

GOD’S WISH

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 John 2  If God had a wish, what do you think it would be? Actually, allow me to rephrase that question in a way that may lead us directly to the answer. As a parent, what is your wish? If you’re like most parents, your wish would be that your children live in health and not lack in any area of life, but instead be blessed and prosperous and whole. So, if that is our wish for our children, why[…]

TRIPLE PLAY OF BLESSING

“Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ—the Son of the Father—will continue to be with us who live in truth and love”. 2 John 1:3 Nothing gets baseball fans on their feet faster than a triple play. That is, of course, if it’s the opposing team doing the fancy teamwork. Triple plays are rare in baseball because certain conditions have to be met, like no outs and at least two runners on base. Since the inception of Major League Baseball in 1876, there have only been 721 triple plays at only five per[…]

ON HIS REPUTATION

“But this is what the Lord says: I would no more reject my people than I would change my laws that govern night and day, earth and sky.” Jeremiah 33:25  When you hear the phrase, “I state my reputation on it,” you typically know that person is serious about the matter at hand. Now, whether or not they have a good or bad reputation is a whole other topic and can sometimes depend on who you ask. But when God says something to this effect, you can rest assured that He means business! Such is the case in Jeremiah 33. With their[…]

HE DELIVERS

“In my distress I prayed to the Lord,     and the Lord answered me and set me free.” Psalm 118:5  David wrote Psalm 118 as a song of celebration for what God had done in his life. Experiencing the mighty, saving hand of the Lord put a song in David’s heart, a song that could only be sung by one who knew what it meant to be delivered. Psalm 118:10-14 paints a picture of what it was like for David as he felt like his enemies were closing in on him. He writes, “Though hostile nations surrounded me, I destroyed them all with the[…]

WALKING IN THE LIGHT

“But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7  Have you ever been in a literal dark place? I have a time or two. I can remember being out in the woods once when it was so dark you could barely see your hand in front of you. John writes about a spiritual darkness that’s way darker than any literal darkness. It’s the darkness of not realizing our need for a Savior because we[…]

RE-CALLED

“Then Jesus told him, ‘Follow me’.” John 21:19b  “Follow Me!” The first time Peter ever heard those words uttered from the mouth of Jesus was the day He first met Him. As a fisherman by trade, Peter, I’m sure, had plans for his fishing business. He was obviously good at it as fishing had become a way of life for Peter. It’s most likely all Peter knew how to do and was well within his comfort zone. All of that changed, however, the day he met Jesus. Having never met him before, Jesus approached Peter and asked to borrow His boat[…]

HE CAME BACK

“Then Jesus told him, ‘You believe because you have seen me. Blessed are those who believe without seeing me’.” John 20:29  It’s interesting how people can permanently label you just simply based on a past failure or mistake. Such is the case with Thomas, as many in the church world today still refer to him as “Doubting Thomas.” Yes, Thomas did doubt, and it would have been better if he, by the testimony of others, had just believed. But the good news is he became a very strong believer. And that was made possible all because Jesus Himself made a special[…]
