THE PRECEDENT

“For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:10

We hear a lot about “precedent” these days, especially when it comes to constitutional and legal matters. Precedent is defined as an earlier occurrence of something similar,” and “a person or thing that serves as a model.” When you have precedent for something, it gives you grounds to take your stand.

Paul tells us in Romans 10:10, “For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” So, what exactly gives Paul the boldness to make such a claim? It’s found in the precedent – God’s relationship with Abram, who became Abraham. Romans 4:3 says “What does Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”

Paul makes the connection for us in  Romans 10:9 which says If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” And the news gets even better because this “salvation” does not just include you being saved from your sins and on your way to Heaven. The words “Saved” and “Salvation” in the Greek come from the word SOZO and mean to be saved, healed, delivered, preserved, protected, made prosperous and made whole.

Today, if there’s anything in your life that needs saving, just simply have faith in what God has provided through Jesus and receive.
