“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Boy am I thankful for air conditioning. With record heat waves, I can’t imagine life without this comfort that many of us have come to take for granted. Isn’t it amazing to consider that the world as we know it today would not have been possible without electricity? All of the major comforts we enjoy today were only made possible as a result of not only the discovery of electricity but the understanding of how to distribute it in a way that everyone has access to it. Air-conditioning for example did not make its way into homes for the most part until the 60′s and 70′s. But without easy access to electricity the discovery of A/C would have been impossible.
In much the same way, the Holy Spirit is the foundational “Power Source” for the Christian life. Sure, one can have their eternal destination secured through salvation, but the ability to live a powerful and effective Christian life is impossible without the power of the Holy Spirit.
Think about all the things in your home that just simply would not work if your main power was turned off. As believers in Jesus, we must stay plugged into the Holy Spirit so that the scriptures that we read in the Bible will work for us. If we hold the Holy Spirit at bay, we also hold back a lot of things that God intends for us to have.
Without the Holy Spirit our faith is weak, we have little or no understanding of scripture, we lack the faith to operate in the gifts and we have little or no fruit in our lives. Simply put, God never intended for us to try to live the “Christian Life” apart from the Holy Spirit. The truth is, it’s impossible. To try to live the Christian life apart from the Holy Spirit is like trying to drive a car without gas. We may look good, but we won’t go anywhere.
The Holy Spirit’s power is consumable. Just like we consume electricity, we must continually consume the Power of the Holy Spirit. We can no more try to live on yesterday’s Power anymore than we could use yesterday’s electricity.
Our adversary loves for us to think that the victory we walked in yesterday will be automatic today, but it won’t. It’s that daily, moment by moment encounter and connection with Him that keeps us walking in victory.
So today, ask Him to fill you afresh and anew with the Holy Spirit and stay plugged into the ultimate “Power Source” for life.
Today’s Thought: Our connection to the Holy Spirit is the “Power Source” for victorious living.
