Keep The Vision Alive

This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. Habakkuk 2:3

In the latter part of the 1800′s a bridge builder by the name of John Roebling had what many considered a “crazy idea.” He had a vision of building a suspension bridge that would be long enough to connect New York City to Long Island. No one had ever dared to build a suspension bridge this long before. The engineering community thought it was simply impossible, but for Roebling, it was a vision and a dream he just couldn’t seem to shake. He even shared this vision with his son, Washington, who himself was an up and coming engineer. Washington got just as excited and passionate to see this dream fulfilled as his father.

Unfortunately for John Roebling, because of an injury he suffered during construction, he would not live to see the fulfillment. In his passing, young Washington stepped up to finish the massive project, however he also suffered a paralyzing injury as a result of a decompression sickness. As he was only able to move just a finger, he was positioned to see the bridge construction from a window. He and his wife learned to communicate through the tapping of his finger on her arm. With his mind still sharp and his determination unwavering, over the next 13 years, Washington was able to give his wife detailed instructions to be passed on to the engineering and construction workers.

At its opening in 1883, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. It still stands today as one or NYC’s proudest architectural and structural achievements.

What vision or dream has God given you? Whatever that dream is, let me encourage you today to keep it alive. The fulfillment of your dream and vision will not only impact your life, but a God dream and vision will always impact others and may also be meant to impact the next generation as well. Even if it seems delayed, keep believing and expecting and you will see it fulfilled.
