Shake That Funk

Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.  1 Thessalonians 5:11

Have you ever had one of those moments when everything in life was going good, and yet a “funk” was trying to hit you? I’m a pretty positive and upbeat person, but I had one of those moments just recently. The kids where well, business was good and there was nothing to dread or worry about, but yet this sly funk tried to creep in one recent afternoon. I wanted to pray, but as soon as I walked in the door of my home instead of praying I called a friend.

It started with a little small talk and then I just opened up to my buddy and told him what was gong on and to my surprise, he was dealing with the same thing. We both knew right away that our conversation was no coincidence and that we had been Divinely lead to expose what our adversary was trying to do. You see our enemy loves to work in our minds just hoping we want expose it to a soul. He knows that as long as we keep it in the dark he has a much better chance at having his way with us. And if we allow, that “little funk” can turn into something bigger.

So what’s the answer? Exposure. We have to expose the works of our adversary to the light. You remember those old vampire movies when Dracula couldn’t stay out once the sun-starting coming up. And, just like Dracula our adversary can’t get us, or keep us, in a funk once the Son comes up. Once we bring Jesus into the conversation all of those works of darkness just simply have to flee.

Matthew 8:21 says, For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” Whether in person, by phone, text, email, smoke signals, or whatever form of communication you choose to use, when we get together with a fellow believer in Christ, Jesus shows up. And, when He as the Prince of Light is present, darkness is no more.

Let me encourage you today to not allow even the slightest “funk” to set in. Get with a friend and expose the enemy for what he is, “the father of lies,” and tell that “funk” its’ got to go!
