For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory. Colossians 1:27
According to Dictionary.com one of the definitions for the word “Secret” is, “beyond ordinary human understanding.” Some translations of Colossians 1:27 call it a “mystery,” but the New Living Translation calls it a “Secret.” So what’s the “Secret” you may ask?” It’s the Good News! It’s the Good News that we have been made right with God, once and for all, because of the sacrifice of Jesus. And, this gift of righteousness has been given, not only for the Jews, but for all who would believe by faith.
Simply put, this means there’s nothing standing between us and the Father and all of His goodness, grace and love. When He sees us, He sees the Son. This means the sin, and the punishment for the sin, of yesterday, today and tomorrow has all been washed away. Now that’s some real Good News!
Sadly this truth about the Good News has somehow been complicated throughout the years. In fact Paul was already seeing it happen in the early Churches and was pleading with them to keep it simple. This “Mystery/Secret,” while hard, if not impossible for the human mind to comprehend, can only be received by faith. Many today have no problem in believing the sins of yesterday have been wiped away, but it’s the forgiveness of sin not yet committed that causes many to struggle in disbelief.
When Jesus said it is finished on the cross, all of our sin where forgiven and His “once and for all sacrifice” took care of it. Does that Good News awaken a desire in you to want to go sin? Of course it doesn’t. A real understanding of this Truth only makes you want to fall in love Him even more. And, we fall in love with Him because He first loved us.
Today, know that the secret is out. You have been made right with the Father and because of this great mystery, you can enjoy the Abundant Life that Jesus came to give.
