The Glow

Psalm 16:11

You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasure of living with you forever.

Moses knew the necessity of the presence of God. He knew that the task he had been given to lead the Israelites was simply way more than he could ever do on his own. And he knew that without the presence of God on him and with him and the children of Israel, there would be no distinction between them and the rest of the world.

Moses so desperately desired the presence of God that he told the Lord point blank, “I don’t want to go unless you go with us.” His persistent pursuit of the presence of God allowed him to see a part of God that no one had seen or known at that point in history. There, on the side of the mountain, Moses saw God’s goodness, mercy and compassion, and this presence of God was so awesome that it caused Moses to literally glow.

There’s nothing like the presence of God. It’s the only thing that makes the difference and sets us apart from the world. Without His presence we are just like everyone else. His presence in our lives sets us apart and guides us in the direction He wants us to go.

David knew something about the presence of God too. He had experienced God’s presence so often in his life, starting even as a young boy tending his father’s sheep. All alone on a Judean hill side, David experienced God’s presence. It was God’s presence that set David apart and propelled him to the throne as king of Israel.

Today, acknowledge your need for His presence in your life. Seek Him, and as you do His presence will guide you on the path of life, and you will see God’s goodness, mercy and compassion. His presence will cause you to glow, making you a standout from the rest of the world. The, everyone will know that it’s His presence in your life that makes the difference and He will receive the glory.
