“Then Jesus said to the Roman officer, ‘Go back home. Because you believed, it has happened.’ And the young servant was healed that same hour.” Matthew 8:13
David had his chance. Saul was right there in his grasp and all David had to do was take Saul out in the darkness of that cave and all of David’s troubles would be over. By killing Saul, David would no longer have to be on the run, live in hiding and could take his rightful place as the next king of Israel for which he had already been anointed. But 1 Samuel chapter seven tells us that David wouldn’t do it. He “wouldn’t touch God’s anointed” by taking Saul’s life, although no one would have ever blamed him. David knew something about the “Order of God” and was not willing to get out of order, but instead was willing to wait patiently for the Lord to intervene on his behalf.
Jesus was amazed by what He called the “amazing faith” of the Roman officer in Matthew chapter eight. This officer understood God’s divine order and recognized the authority that Jesus Himself was walking in. He told Jesus that He could just “speak the word” and his servant would be healed.
I’ve seen folks through the years get out of God’s divine order and thus forfeit great opportunities that God had for them. In fact, I’ve been guilty of it myself. So, what’s the connection with order and faith? Why would Jesus, after encountering the Roman officer, respond that He had “never seen that kind of faith in all of Israel?”
Because order is a sign of our faith and trust in God.
When we are willing to stay in God’s divine order, even though it may seem that taking matters into our own hands could get us where we want to be quicker, it shows that we have the patience and faith to wait on the Lord and His perfect timing. David was willing to wait on God to right the wrong, and the officer was willing to simply trust in Jesus’ spoken word.
Today, let’s be willing to wait on the Lord while trusting that in His time and in His authority, He will accomplish everything He’s spoken over our lives.
These scars build up walls around it so we never let it happen again. Being healed by faith means that those walls come crumbling down because people believe that their faith in God alone will protect them and not harm them (Jeremiah 29:11), that the scars have a story and a deliverance to be healed.
