The Master Craftsman

The heavens proclaim the glory of God.
The skies display his craftsmanship.” Psalm 19:1

Recently, my wife called out to me from our sunroom and said, “Hey, come see this!” As I stepped from the kitchen and looked out the back windows, I could see the most amazing color- filled sky as the sun was setting. Clouds streaked to the left and right and were engulfed in bright colors of orange, yellow, purple and blue. Living in the Inner Banks of North Carolina, I get to see some amazing sunrise and sunset moments. Only God could craft something of such amazing beauty!

I once heard a lady define the difference between a builder and a craftsman. She explained that a builder can just build based on following the blueprints, but a true craftsman knows how to take it to a whole new level. A craftsman can take it from a plan to a work of beauty.

Bezalel was handpicked by God to be the craftsman of the Tabernacle, and God anointed him with special skills to do the job. God wanted to dwell among His people, but not just any dwelling place would do. He wanted this sanctuary to stand out as a place of distinction. A place where all would know, “God lives there.” Bezalel took the instructions he received from the Lord and crafted a work of art.

The desire of David’s heart was that his life would reflect God’s craftsmanship. He knew his areas of weakness and just how prone he was to stumble and fall, so He called out to God to craft his heart so that it would be pleasing to the Lord. We are thankful today that, because of the New Covenant, when the Father sees us, He sees us through His Son Jesus, and “As He is, so are we in this world.” Because of Christ, we are a “new creation” from “God’s own handiwork.”

Today, remind yourself of who you are in Him and let His craftsmanship and handiwork be seen by those around you.
