“Then I pray to you, O LORD . I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life.” Psalm 142:5
Anything “superhero” is all the rage and has been for decades. In the early days, superhero comic books would fly off the shelves almost as fast as store managers could get them out, and now, even today, superhero movies continue to set box office records. So why so much interest in the world of superheroes? Could it be there’s something in us that just simply loves the idea of man being enabled to do something superhuman?
Scripture is full of superhuman accounts. In 2 Samuel chapter one, we see a list of David’s “mighty men of valor,” and these men are noted for doing some of the most superhuman feats. In Matthew 14, we even see the account of Jesus Himself feeding five thousand men plus women and children and just a few verses later we see Him walking on water. One could argue, “But, yes, Jesus could do those things because He was God.” And yes, although He was God, Philippians 2:7 says, “Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.”
So, what does this have to do with you and me? Jesus said in John 14:12, “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.” So, what was so significant about “Jesus returning to the Father?”
Jesus tells us in John 16:7, “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.” We know that “the Advocate” Jesus is speaking of is the Holy Spirit. And, Jesus goes on to say in Acts 1:8, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” This “Super Empowerment” Jesus speaks of would result in us “being” witnesses, which is a lot different than us “doing” witnessing.
No, you may never walk on water like Peter, but with Jesus in your life and the Holy Spirit as your source of Power, no matter where you go or what situation you may find yourself in, you can have “Super” on your natural allowing you to do “supernatural” things through Him and for His Glory!
