“Dear woman,” Jesus said to her, “your faith is great. Your request is granted.” And her daughter was instantly healed. Matthew 15:28
Wouldn’t you hate to one day discover that the side you had been on the whole time was actually the wrong side? That’s exactly what many men from Israel began to discover as they realized that David’s side was indeed the right side and not King Saul’s. Bit by bit, group by group, they began to leave Israel and join David’s side in the wilderness until, as 1 Chronicles 12:22 says, “Day after day more men joined David until he had a great army, like the army of God.”
Today, more and more believers are realizing that the “preaching of the Law” as the “way” to live the Christian life is the wrong side, and instead “the Law of the Spirit” and the “Gospel of Grace” is the right side. John 1:17 says, “For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness (grace and truth) came through Jesus Christ.” The Apostle Paul told us that the Law could only point out our faults but was powerless to bring change to one’s life.
The Pharisees and teachers of religious law were so concerned about protecting and keeping the law, that they saw Jesus as their enemy and not the Savior, sent by the Father, that He was. There were, however, those who you would have least expected, who believed that Jesus was the Way and the Truth, like the Gentile women in Matthew 15. She came to Jesus in the revelation that He was indeed the “Son of David and Lord,” and as result she captured Jesus’ heart and received from Him the miracle that she so desperately needed.
To further prove that Jesus was God’s Grace personified and the personification of His willingness to save, Jesus healed the sick, opened blinded eyes, freed the captive and fed the hungry. Good works flowed from Him, as good works will flow from those who truly follow Him and His Law of grace and love.
Today, let’s purposefully keep our eyes on Jesus and His loving grace, and as we do, we will be keeping ourselves on the winning side.
