“You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.” Psalm 139:5
In 2 Samuel chapters 4 and 5 we see that what David had, for so long, believed God for had finally come to pass. As all the leaders of Israel and Judah came together, they gathered around David and made him their king once and for all. For David, the long struggle was finally over. Some estimate that the wait between the time David was anointed to be king until the time he began his combined reign over Israel and Judah was somewhere between 15 and 22 years. Either way, that’s a long time to wait for a promise to be fulfilled. Not to mention that during those years David endured some of the toughest hardships and hurts imaginable, yet at the right moment God was faithful in fulfilling His promise.
How long have you been waiting to see God fulfill a promise in your life? Maybe a promise for healing, restoration of a relationship, financial stability or breakthrough. You found a promise in scripture that leapt off the page at you, or maybe a word through someone that you knew, in your heart, was a word from the Lord, yet you’ve yet to see that promise fulfilled.
Let me encourage you today to “plant yourself in the promise!” No matter what it may look like or how circumstances may seem, hold onto the promise of God and don’t let go! Whatever you do, don’t let discouragement and unbelief keep you from believing what you know in your heart God has said. Just as God carefully knit you together in the womb, so He is knitting together every detail of that promise that He will surely bring to pass.
In the very first Psalm that David penned to paper, inspired by the Holy Spirit, he said that for the person who placed their trust in God’s word, that “They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.”
Today and every day, keep yourself planted in the promise!
