“The priests could not continue their service because of the cloud,for the glorious presence of the Lord filled the Temple of God.”2 Chronicles 5:14
Most everyone enjoys traveling, visiting and enjoying different places and locals. My wife and I were just recently talking about one of our favorite trips together and how we would love to experience that again. Traveling can be fun and relaxing, depending on the destination, but Dorothy was right when she said, “There’s no place like home.”
After a trip, getaway, or excursion, it’s always nice to get back home. There’s something about the “getting away” part of it all that actually makes you appreciate home even more. And, when you think about home, there’s usually a particular spot that makes home feel even more like home. Maybe it’s your favorite chair, reading area or even bed that, when you get there, you can simply relax yourself, unwind and sink down into a place of comfort that you just can’t find anywhere else. That’s your spot!
God has a place like that too. In fact, it’s in the story of Solomon and the dedication of the Temple, found in 1 Kings 8 and 2 Chronicles 5, that we get a clear picture of where “God’s spot” is. I’m sure without a doubt God loved and appreciated the magnificent craftsmanship of the Temple that Solomon had built for Him. There was no place like it on earth and on this particular day of dedication as countless sacrifices were offered in His name, God’s heart must have swelled. But there was one place in particular where He chose to make His grand entrance, a place where he made Himself right at home and claimed as His spot.
Although that day God was being worshiped as righteous, holy, just, everlasting, omnipotent, omnipresent and almighty, it wasn’t in those revelations of who He is that He found His spot. No, it was in the worship and revelation of His goodness and unending love. 2 Chronicles 5:13 tells us, “The trumpeters and singers performed together in unison to praise and give thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals, and other instruments, they raised their voices and praised the Lord with these words: ‘He is good! His faithful love endures forever!’ At that moment a thick cloud filled the Temple of the Lord.”
It was simply in the praise exalting His goodness and love that God found His spot in the Temple. While everything else was great, it was in those words alone that He chose to enter the Temple with His glory so tangible and real.
Today, let His spot be your spot as you relax and rest in the revelation of His goodness and unending love for you!
