THE ROCK

“God warned them of this in the Scriptures when he said, ‘I am placing a stone in Jerusalem that makes people stumble, a rock that makes them fall. But anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced’.” Romans 9:33

According to Wikipedia, “The Rock of Gibraltar, also known as the Rock, is a monolithic limestone promontory located in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, near the southwestern tip of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula. It is 426 m (1,398 ft) high. Most of the Rock’s upper area is covered by a nature reserve, which is home to around 300 Barbary macaques monkeys. These macaques, as well as a labyrinthine network of tunnels, attract a large number of tourists each year.”

Quora.com sites that, “In places around the world, the Rock of Gibraltar has always been used as a symbol of strength and resilience. Such symbolism most likely derives from the famous resilience of the Rock, when faced with the 13 Spanish sieges which it resisted during the 18th century.” Even the financial services company Prudential has used “the rock” for decades in its logo, along with its accompanying slogan, “Get a piece of the rock.”

For you and I as believers, our belief is anchored to a Rock, and that Rock is Jesus Christ Himself.  In Romans 9 :33 the Apostle Paul referred back to a quote from Isaiah the Prophet that says that Jesus would be a stone that would make unbelievers stumble, but for all who put their trust in Him, He would be the rock that would “keep them from disgrace.”

Jesus told Peter that the revelation he had that Jesus was the “Son of God” was the “Rock of Revelation” that He would build His Church upon.

Today, having put your trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, you can lean on the Rock that will always be your strength and never fail you.
