HIGHER THINKING

“Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand. Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.” Colossians 3:1-2

Dr. Robert Schuller was known as the pastor of the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove California, a mega church before mega churches were even considered possible. Dr. Schuller cites many of his life’s accomplishments and successes to what he coined as “Possibility Thinking.”

My new favorite TV show is the hit reality show, “The Profit,” with its main character Marcus Lemonis. Marcus, known in the business world as an extremely savvy entrepreneur and investor, comes alongside a failing business and offers an opportunity for partnership with him. And, for those business owners who truly buy into Marcus’s core beliefs in people, process, and product, they most often find themselves achieving a level of greatness and success that they never previously imagined. Marcus sets the bar high and challenges his partners to think bigger, while putting together the processes that will help take them there.

In Colossians 3, Paul encourages us as believers to set the bar higher in our thinking, by thinking Heavenly instead of earthly thoughts. He challenges us to not allow our thoughts to be limited to earthly things, but instead to let Heaven be our standard for thinking and living.

In 1 Kings 20 and 21, we see King Ahab limiting himself by thinking on an earthly and worldly level, which greatly limited his life and led to the demise of his kingdom. While at the same time, Josephat, on the other hand, kept his mind heavenward and thus greatly prospered far above his wildest dream.

Today, let’s remind ourselves to think higher and Heavenward and, as we do, we will see the success and blessing that only the Lord Himself can bring.
