“Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.” Hebrews 7:25
Shrouded in mystique and exclusivity, the United States Supreme Court decides cases that impact American’s daily lives like none other. Along with all of this mystique is an exclusive group of about 65 lawyers that are said to be among the top attorneys in the land. Considering that the court only hears about 75 out of the 10,000 petitions they receive annually, these “top attorneys” are supposedly at the top of their game when it comes to advocating for the clients and causes they represent. And when it comes to their fees, they’re at the top too, taking the phrase, “The best lawyer money can buy,” to a whole new level.
As exclusive and elite as our Supreme Court may be, there is another court that is far, far greater, and that is the “Court of Heaven!” In this Court sits the most majestic throne on which is seated the most powerful judge to ever exist, the Lord God Almighty! Fortunately for you and me, as believers, we have a Lawyer in that Court who’s better than the very best lawyers here on earth. By far, Jesus is considered “the best lawyer money can’t buy,” and according to Hebrews 7:25 He is ever (always) interceding on our behalf.
This word, “interceding,” means “the act of intervening on behalf of another, to mediate and to attempt to reconcile differences between two people or groups. I especially love the second part of this definition that says, “to attempt to reconcile differences between two people or groups.” When I think about the differences between a Holy and Righteous God and sin-filled, ever failing mankind, I think WOW! Jesus has, and is, interceding on our behalf, ever showing the Father that our sin debt has been paid through His own eternal sacrifice. Did you get that?
Not only is Jesus “the best lawyer money can’t buy,” He’s also the permanent, once-and-for-all payment for our crimes of sin, and He has “saved” us to the uttermost!
Today, you can rest in knowing the you have the very best representation before the Father, and that He has, and does, receive payment in full from our Advocate, Jesus.
