TRUTH SPEAKING TRUTH

“Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart’.” John 7:38

Can you imagine how powerful it must have been to hear “The Truth” speaking the Truth with such passion and conviction? In John 14:6, Jesus is revealed as “The Truth” saying, Jesus told him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me’.” And we know that everything that came from Jesus’s mouth was indeed the truth. In fact, John 7:16 says, “So Jesus told them, ‘My message is not my own; it comes from God who sent me’.”

Hearing “The Truth” speak the Truth was so powerful, that even in such a large crowd of skeptics, John 7:31 tells us that, “Many among the crowd at the Tempe believed in Him.” Jesus, “The Truth,” was in fact so powerful in speaking the truth that verse 46 of that same chapter tells us that the very guards sent to arrest Jesus could not do so because of the powerful words He spoke.

So, what does this mean for you and me? Jesus tells us in John 7:38 that, “Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart’.” Jesus is teaching us, as His followers, that, when we believe in Him, the Holy Spirit Himself, God’s own Spirit, the “Spirit of Truth,” will flow through our hearts. I’m sure there are various ways in which The Spirit can flow through our hearts, but one of the ways He can most certainly flow through us is in the words we speak.

I’m not saying that you and I will be Jesus, but we can certainly be like Him. In fact, His Word tells us to do just that. So, when we allow truth to be spoken through us by the “Spirit of Truth,” the Truth can have a powerful impact on the people around us. Can you recall a moment when you knew, without a doubt, God was speaking through you to someone? I’m sure you can, and for some this is not uncommon.

Today, as we keep our faith and focus on Jesus and His finished work, which is the Good News, we can play a part in God getting truth to those around us, as we let His Spirit flow through us in the truth we speak.
