GOD’S TWO-STEP

“For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”  Philippians 2:13

I may have a few moves, but I wouldn’t consider myself much of a dancer. Dancing, however, has been around for ages and, in scripture, we even see dance as a means of worship that pleases God.

The “two-step” has been called the “most popular couples dance” in the US, and most dance authorities believe it’s because of its simplicity. With just two basic moves the two-step gives dancers the basis for a variety of different dancing genres. The more a dancer gains confidence in their ability to two-step, the more they enjoy dancing. What is certainly required with the couple’s two steps is the clearly defined lead partner who carries the dance and dictates the direction.

Our Heavenly Father has a couple of basic moves that, as we gain more and more confidence in, we find ourselves gliding across the dance floor of life. These two simple moves are found in Philippians 2:13 as “desire and power.” According to this verse, Paul tells us that God himself gives us both the “desire and power” to do what pleases Him. So, it could be simply understood that “pleasing God” isn’t a mystery or something that, like a carrot, stays just out of reach. No, according to Paul our Heavenly Father supplies us with what we need, and that, my friend, is a beautiful picture of God’s grace. While the law demands of us, grace supplies to us.

We don’t have to live in worry or fear that we’re not pleasing Him. All we have to do is let Him be our dance leader, guiding us and directing us in the direction He wants us to go. What we’ll find as a result is the exhilaration, joy, peace and satisfaction that comes along with enjoying dancing with our Father.

Today, let Him lead, and trust in the two-step of “desire and power” He has supplied.
