“But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life.” John 4:14
She was the “queen of failed relationships.” She knew it and so did everyone in town. That’s why she came to get her water in the heat of the day to avoid all the morning well gatherers. She had felt their glairs and heard the gossip. She had been through five marriages and the guy she was living with was probably on his way out too. Why, because no doubt she had been seeking something in those men that they could not give her.
She wanted so desperately to be loved and accepted for who she was, but her massive insecurities only brought about a self-sabotage with each new-found relationship. But that all ended on a hot Judean afternoon when she encountered her first True Love.
You see, she had never really opened herself up to anyone before. She didn’t trust, and she certainly didn’t trust anyone with her deepest secrets and fears, but this Man was different. He “read her mail” at the well that day and let her know that she had been drawing from the wrong wells her whole life and then, He offered her a drink from the “Well of Living Water.”
So, what was so special about this water? It was the water of agape, unconditional, and the only water that could quench and satisfy the thirst of a soul like hers. She drank it and was never the same. She left that well and ran throughout town letting everyone know about Jesus.
I want to love like that! I want more of that Agape, unconditional love to flow through me into others, and I’m sure you do to. So, how does that happen? It starts with first receiving that love for ourselves.
You see, there’s nothing He doesn’t know about you and me. Our innermost intimate secrets are not hidden from Him, yet He loves you so much that He was willing to lay His life down for you. He doesn’t judge you or condemn you, but instead prepares a fresh batch of mercy for you that’s new every morning. How much better would we be if we took a deep drink from that well every day? It would wash away yesterday’s hurt and failure and give us renewed hope for tomorrow. Letting Him love us with that unconditional agape love will heal us from the inside out. And it will clean and refresh us in such a way that we can become a vessel from which He can love others through.
So, go ahead and take that drink. You’ll never be the same!
