“And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.” Ephesians 3:18
I was recently winding down for the day and watching some videos on my iPad. I couldn’t see the charging symbol because I was in full screen mode and was surprised when I finally noticed my battery indicator showed that my iPad was almost dead, even though I had my lightning cable plugged in the whole time. When I looked down at my power cord, it was plugged into the extension cord too. Thinking the lightning cable wasn’t pushed in all the way, I unplugged and then reinserted, but to no avail. So, after reinspection, I discovered the extension cord connection was not completely seated. It was just out barley enough not to make a connection.
I was reminded of all of this as I read Ephesians 3. Several times throughout the chapter, Paul talks about us having power. In verse 20, Paul tells us that, “God, is able, to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” This tells me that it is imperative, if we want to see God do some mind-blowing things in our lives, there is a power we need to possess.
Now, at first glance that verse alone might give you the impression that there is something you must do, and by not doing this “something” you won’t have this power, but that’s not at all what Paul meant. The onus isn’t on us to produce this power, but instead, we simply receive power. Paul makes it clear that we are not the power source, but instead are recipients of power. Ephesians 3:16 says, “I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.”
So, what then is required to receive? We must be completely plugged in to His love. Paul goes on to say in verses 17 and 18, “Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.”
Today, if you feel you’re losing your power, steam, and drive; make sure you’re COMPLETEY plugged in to the power source of knowing how much He loves you!
