“For God’s will was for us to be made holy by the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ, once for all time.” Hebrews 10:10
The U.S. Marines share a comradery like no other. Some say this distinction comes from their hard training, rich history, tradition, or uniforms but most Marines would tell you that this distinction starts with their very symbol, the “Eagle Globe and Anchor.” The EGA is only given to a young recruit after they’ve earned it and it symbolizes and embodies everything Marine and is proudly worn.
Moses had been raised up by God to deliver the Children of Israel from bondage, but Pharaoh’s heart was hard, and each time he decided to let the Israelites go, he recanted. Now the LORD was going to pour out the last and final plague. God would place a demand on the “first” and every firstborn in the land, both man and beast, would die. Yet it would not be so for Israel. Exodus 11:7 says, “But among the Israelites it will be so peaceful that not even a dog will bark. Then you will know that the LORD makes a distinction between the Egyptians and the Israelites.”
So, what was the distinction? It was only one thing: the blood of the lamb. Instructions were given by God through Moses for each household to consume a lamb that night and sprinkle the blood of the spotless animal on the top and sides of the doorpost of each home. Then, when the death angel came through, he would “pass over” each home that was covered by the blood.
You see, as Egypt represents the “world,” so the Israelites represent the “saved.” And the “saved” weren’t saved because of anything they did. This salvation could not be earned but applied and all made possible by the blood of the lamb.
And still today the only thing that gives a Christian the rights, privileges, and benefits of Sozo Salvation, is the Blood of the Lamb, Christ Jesus. It certainly is not because “we’re good and the world is bad.” There are times I’m not good at all. But what makes me distinct is the blood of Jesus Christ alone. His blood was shed for me on the cross, and because I believe and have received His sacrifice for me, my life is covered by His blood.
If you’ve never applied the blood of Jesus to the door of your heart, then do so today by asking Him into your life. And, if you already have, then remind yourself today that you are distinct because of Him.
