NO PRETENSE

“Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen!” Psalm 41:13

The mother in Mark 7 had a revelation that hardly any Jews had, even though she was of Syrian-Phoenician decent.  She knew in her heart that Jesus was the Messiah, and she approached Him from that revelation. She desperately wanted Him to heal her daughter who was bound and tormented by the adversary. She was right in coming to Jesus as the source for healing, but she was wrong in thinking Jesus would heal her daughter because she had the revelation as to who He was.

As she called out, “Jesus Son of David,” she may have even thought Jesus would assume she was a Jew, and as such that He would respond to her with compassion. But He wanted her to know that He knew exactly who she was. Jesus wanted her to drop all pretense and come to Him just as she was, in all honesty. He didn’t want her to think for a minute that He would heal her daughter because of her spiritual revelation or because He thought she was a Jew. He wanted her to know that she could come to Him just as she was, and that He would heal her daughter because of who He was, full of love and compassion.

Today, and every day, we can come to Him just as we are. He’s not impressed with who we are or what we know, He just simply loves us and wants to do good things in our lives because of who He is. And He is good!
