“O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer!” Psalm 61:1

So, is it OK to ask God for something in bold fashion? Typically, when we think about coming to the Lord for a request or petition, we think of doing so with timidity, out of fear of being irreverent. And I get being reverent and honoring the Lord, don’t get me wrong. But is it OK for us to come to Him with boldness in our heart and voice?

In Numbers 27 we see the story of the daughters of Zelophehad who, because there were no sons born of their father, were being passed over when land grants were being given out by Moses. They felt this was unfair, so the five sisters came together with a petition, presenting it to Moses, asking for their fair share of what they felt like they should receive. Moses took this petition to the Lord and the Lord answered in Numbers 27:7 by saying, “The claim of the daughters of Zelophehad is legitimate. You must give them a grant of land along with their father’s relatives. Assign them the property that would have been given to their father.” These five bold sisters received favor from the Lord! Isn’t it interesting that the number five happens to be the “number of grace?”

The writer of Hebrews knew something about this as well, instructing us in Hebrews 4:16 to come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

David knew something about coming to the Lord with boldness. Notice that even our key verse is marked with two exclamation points. David is petitioning the Lord, with boldness, to come to his aid.

What do you need the Lord to do for you today? Whatever that may be, don’t hesitate to boldly ask!
