A THOUSAND TO ONE

“’No, go back to your family, and tell them everything God has done for you’. So he went all through the town proclaiming the great things Jesus had done for him.” Luke 8:39

I’m not a betting man and I don’t know much about gambling and odds making, but I know enough to know that if the odds are a thousand to one, then there’s a pretty good chance that what you’re banking on probably isn’t going to happen. That’s exactly the odds the man in Luke chapter eight was facing as he was filled with a legion of demons. In fact, based on Roman math, a legion could range from anywhere between 1,000 to 5,200. Can you imagine that?  Can you imagine what this man’s life must have been like? Scripture gives us insight in Mark 5:4-5; Whenever he was put into chains and shackles—as he often was—he snapped the chains from his wrists and smashed the shackles. No one was strong enough to subdue him. Day and night he wandered among the burial caves and in the hills, howling and cutting himself with sharp stones.”

As we know, Jesus cast every single demon out of this man, completely setting him free from the life of torment he had known. And, as a result, he begged Jesus to let him be one of his disciples, but instead Jesus instructed him to go tell his story to everyone who would listen. This man became one of the first evangelists to go out and proclaim the life-changing goodness of God.

Are you facing insurmountable odds in any area of life? If so, know that with Jesus on your side, the odds are in your favor as the impossible becomes possible! Rely today on the same power that set this man free to turn your situation around. And, when it happens, share that good news with someone who needs to hear it.
