“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5

If you’ve ever watched the Andy Griffith Show you may remember a line that Andy would say every now and then to describe something that was good. Particularly if it refereed to Aunt Bee’s cooking, Andy wouldn’t just say it was “Good,” he would say it was “Mighty Good!” I can remember my grandmother using those words to describe something she really liked.

Some years ago, our family car broke down at my office. There was nothing I could do to get it to start, and I knew it would need to be towed to a repair shop. Times were tight, so a towing bill on top of a repair bill just wasn’t in order. Not knowing what to do, I prayed about it and within just a few minutes I was reminded that the recent auto insurance company I had just signed on with gave us free towing as one of the benefits of our policy. The call was made, and in no time the tow truck arrived, taking the family car to the repair shop.

Sadly many people have never taken advantage of all the benefits that their “Salvation package” includes. You see, when Jesus went to the cross, He didn’t just die to save us from our sins, He took stripes on his back for our healing, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and so much more. He was even rejected by the Father, so that you and I would forever be accepted.

When you understand that the word “Saved” in the New Testament is the Greek word sozo and in combination with the word soteria, the Greek word for Salvation, “being saved” takes on a whole new meaning. It literally means that through Jesus we are saved, healed, delivered, preserved, protected, made prosperous and made whole. Jesus said, in John 10:10, that He came that we may have life and have it to the full – which means in abundance, until it overflows.

Whatever you need today, His finished work on the cross provides the answer. Knowing the truth about all that Jesus died to give us takes “Good Friday” to a whole new level making it a “Mighty Good Friday!”
