Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6
One of the things I enjoy most about living in a waterfront town is my early morning walks. It seems I take note of everything along the waterfront and as random as it may sound, most mornings I find myself counting the number of boats moored out in the river. And, one of the things I’ve recently noticed is the local sailing school boats lined up on their floating dock for the start of the summer sailing school. It’s always so neat seeing all the sailing school boats, captained by young sailors all out in the river at once.
I don’t know much about sailing, but one thing I do know is it’s imperative to know how to make smooth adjustments to the sail. Without the necessary adjustment it’s impossible to make much headway once the direction of the wind changes.
A business associate and I where just recently talking about some necessary changes we recognized that were needed in an area of business and the word that kept coming to both of us was “adjustment.”
Proverbs 3:6 says if we “Acknowledge Him in all our ways, He will direct our paths.” This word direct can mean, “Adjust.” Surprisingly a lot of folks aren’t open to any kind of adjustment. It’s easy to take offense and even become hostile at even the hint of a needed adjustment. Sadly change, of any kind, isn’t always embraced by the ones that need it the most.
God’s not trying to bring adjustments in our lives to frustrate us, but as our loving Father His desire is that we make whatever adjustments are necessary to keep us on the path of Sozo Life. Proverbs 3:12 says; “For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.”
His desire is that we walk in wholeness and blessing in every area of life so that we are walking, talking examples of his goodness and mercy. We’re not to feel as though those adjustments are meant to take something from us, but instead to bring something to us and that is the Abundant Life that Jesus Himself speaks of in John 10:10.
So the next time you see the need for adjustment, take heart knowing that your Heavenly Father is directing you to catch the wind of His blessing.
