“For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.” Psalm 100:5
Two of Jesus’ followers were headed in the wrong direction. Things had not worked out as they had hoped, and now disappointment had detoured them back to their home in Emmaus. Jesus, however came to their rescue as He came and walked alongside them on their seven-mile journey though He kept them from recognizing Him. On the walk, He opened the scriptures concerning Himself as the Messiah to them, causing their hearts to “burn within them.” They begged Him to stay the night, and there at dinner, the guest became the host as He took the bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to them. It was in that very moment their eyes were opened, and they recognized Him as He disappeared.
This encounter with Jesus so invigorated them that they forgot all about their disappointments and ran the seven miles back to Jerusalem to tell the others gathered there in the upper room.
Has disappointment ever led you on a detour? It can happen to any of us, and if and when it does, we can find our hope again in Jesus Himself. Knowing that He went through all our pain in His broken body on the cross, we can find our hope and healing.
Today, embrace the Body of our Lord Jesus and let Him invigorate you, filling you with hope again!
