Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.” John 6:29
“According to StaffSquared.com, a global poll conducted by Gallup has uncovered that out of the world’s one billion full-time workers, only 15% of people are engaged at work. That means that an astronomical 85% of people are unhappy in their jobs.”
I realize that doing the same thing day after day can get tiresome, but if you haven’t already, my hope for you is that you find the work that is fulfilling to you. After all, if you’re going to spend all your working years doing something, it should be something you enjoy. I have heard it said that the best way to work is to find something you love to do and get paid for it.
In John 6, Jesus was explaining the way to Eternal Life to a group of people who had searched for Him and found Him in Capernaum. They were having such a hard time grasping the truth that “the way” was found in believing and not working. In John 6:28 they said, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
They just simply couldn’t accept that God wanted the work to come to an end and that the New Covenant way to the Father was not working at all, but only believing. Many today still feel that the way to please God is by staying busy or by keeping the law. Thank God that when Jesus said, “It is finished,” the “NO WORK ZONE” was established.
Just like being out on a boat, when you see the NO WAKE ZONE sign it means you must pull back on the throttle and slow down, so we must be reminded from time-to-time that Jesus did all the work for us on the cross.
Today, through the help of the Holy Spirit, we can guard our hearts from allowing ourselves to slip back into that Old Covenant way of thinking and live in the “NO WORK ZONE.”
