NOW I SEE

But I know this: I was blind, and now I can see!” John 9:25b

Blind from birth. He had never seen his parents, his friends, the beautiful surroundings in which he lived, or anything else. The young man described in John chapter nine had never seen a single thing, until he saw Jesus. The very first thing his eyes ever focused on was the Lord Jesus Himself, and even then, he didn’t know who Jesus was. When brought before the temple rulers and aggressively questioned, he replied, speaking of Jesus, “I think he must be a prophet.”

In John 9:35-38, Jesus later found the man and asked him, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”, to which he replied, “Who is he? I want to believe him.” Jesus went out of his way to find this man so that He could reveal Himself to him, and as a result the young man began to worship Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Just like this young man, there are some things Jesus wants us to see. He wants us to see that the Father is good! Zephaniah 3:17 describes Him in such a beautiful way saying, “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” In a Psalm of thanksgiving, David writes in Psalm 100:5, “For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation.”

Jesus wants us to see that He is a direct representation of the Father’s heart and He demonstrated this throughout His 3.5-year earthly ministry. In John 14:9, Jesus says, “If you have seen me you have seen the Father.” And in John 10:30, Jesus says, “The Father and I are one.”

Jesus also wants us to know that our Heavenly Father loves us so much. In fact, John 3:16 says, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.”

Today, may we allow God’s Spirit to open our eyes to the love, mercy and grace He has shown to us through Jesus, and with our eyes wide open, may we enjoy all of the benefits and blessings of the Salvation of the Lord.
