“Now seek the Lord your God with all your heart and soul. Build the sanctuary of the Lord God so that you can bring the Ark of the Lord’s Covenant and the holy vessels of God into the Temple built to honor the Lord’s name.” 1 Chronicles 22:19
In 1 Chronicles 22, the Temple of the Lord was sizing up to be quite a magnificent thing. David had furnished Solomon with an abundance of only the best building materials that would be used in the Temple’s construction, and all the skilled workers were ready to start this incredible project of building a house for the Lord that would give Him honor and glory.
In 1 Corinthians 3:16, Paul tells us that now in the New Covenant, “We are the temple of the Lord,” and that our temples are created so that God Himself, through the Holy Spirit can live and dwell in us. 2 Peter 1:3 says, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue.” In essence, Peter is saying in 2 Peter 1:3 that God Himself has furnished us with the building materials we need for our holy temples, “All things that pertain to life and godliness.”
The word “Life” in the above verse is from the Greek word “Zoe” which means “the absolute fulness of life, a life active and vigorous, devoted to God, blessed, in the portion even in this world of those who put their trust in Christ.” This word “Zoe” is the same word used in John 10:10 where Jesus Himself says, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” This is also the same word “life” used in John 3:16.
The point is this, Jesus came to give us an abundant, overflowing life when He gave us salvation (sozo), and through this sozo, He has given us everything we need for that life to be an abundant, overflowing, blessed, God kind of life. All we must do is receive this free gift by faith, according to Ephesians 8:9-10.
As we receive His Sozo into our lives, we are building a magnificent temple for Him to feel right at home in. So today, take by faith all the materials He has so graciously supplied to us and build it!
