“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5

When our youngest was about ten months old he got into this new thing where he didn’t want his mom to feed him anymore, but instead only preferred to eat what he could pick up and put in his mouth himself. It was such a cute thing, but it had my wife wondering what kind of food options she had to give him considering he had only two little bottom teeth.  It’s amazing to me the things you don’t have to teach a little one, and how many things we just do because it’s in our nature.

We can all relate. That streak of independence that we all just inherently have causes us to want to “do it ourselves.” And, while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it can cause us to miss out on our Heavenly Father’s help, the key for which, is our willingness to ask. In Psalm 85 David writes about how that streak of independence can get us in trouble from time to time, but David also knew that when he reached out to his Heavenly Father for help and direction, he always received the Father’s unfailing love through his divine help. In Psalm 86:5 David wrote, “O Lord, you are so good, so ready to forgive, so full of unfailing love for all who ask for your help.”

When we come to Him in our time of need, especially when it comes to needing His wisdom, He will never rebuke you for asking, but will give us what we need. Isn’t that refreshing and encouraging to know?

Today, you can know that when independence leads you to a dead end, all you have to do is ask the Father, and His answers will come with love.
