EVEN STILL

“As they were eating, Jesus took some bread and blessed it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, ‘Take this and eat it, for this is my body’.” Matthew 26:26

If you’ve ever been betrayed by someone close to you, it can be a very difficult thing to overcome. As I read Matthew chapter 26, it’s plain to see that Jesus knew Judas had already sold him out. Even still, Jesus offered Judas the bread and cup of the New Covenant, which was in itself a sign of unconditional love.

Can you imagine offering abundant life to someone who had just sold you for thirty pieces of silver? Jesus demonstrated a love and grace to Judas that is so hard to humanly conceive and can only be possible with divine help. Some scholars believe that, in Scripture, the number twenty-six represents the power of the Gospel. And, in Matthew 26:26 we see that the Good News of Jesus Christ is represented in the bread and the cup of communion.

If you’ve been betrayed or hurt by another in some way, rely on the power of the Gospel to heal your heart and offer lasting forgiveness.
