“Didn’t you ever read this in the Scriptures?” ‘The stone that the builders rejected has now become the cornerstone’.” Mark 12:10
Any idea what Elon Musk, Michael Jordan, Walt Disney, Elvis and Jesus all have in common? They all suffered great rejection. Walt Disney was fired as a newspaper writer for “not being creative enough.” Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team because he wasn’t tall enough. Elvis was told by a manager, after his first performance at the Grand-Ole Opry, that he needed to go back to driving a delivery truck, and Elon Musk was laughed at and mocked at his first attempts to launch into outer space and build an affordable and proficient electric car. Yet, in every one of these stories, these folks took the rejection, felt the pain, and then built upon it.
Jesus Himself told the Pharisees that He was indeed the “Stone,” spoken of by the psalmist, David, that would be rejected, but that the Father would make Him the “Cornerstone” for the Gospel and the Church to be built upon.
If you’ve ever suffered rejection, and I’m sure you have, then you know full well it can be a tough blow. But, like Jesus, we must know that rejection in itself isn’t the end, but instead something that our Heavenly Father, through the power of His Spirit, can help us build upon.
Today, be reminded that rejection isn’t the end, but a building block to a new beginning.
