“And if God cares so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and thrown into the fire tomorrow, he will certainly care for you. Why do you have so little faith?” Luke 12:28
Jacob found himself playing a bizarre game of chess with his Uncle Laban, and he had certainly met his match when it came to trickery. His Uncle Laban tricked him by giving him Leah instead of Rachael and made him work an extra seven years for the bride his heart was set on. Then, after they had made a deal for the spotted and speckled members of the flock, Laban snuck them all away. Yet, in all these obstacles the Blessing of God was still on Jacob’s life.
In fact, the blessing was so real and tangible that Laban knew the only reason he himself had been blessed so much was because Jacob was living with him and helping him on the farm. The odds were stacked against Jacob, though, when it came to dealing with Laban. But despite Laban’s attempts to rob Jacob of the herds and flocks he had been promised him, Jacob came up with a plan to breed Laban’s flocks in front of tree trimmings, so they would produce speckled and spotted offspring.
There had never been such a plan or strategy to produce speckled and spotted animals before or since that time, but it worked and in this Laban was “Checkmated!” As bizarre as this strategy sounds, it worked, because it was the strategy God gave Jacob to redeem the loss Jacob had experienced. Only God!
And, just as He took care of Jacob and provided for him, He wants to provide, prosper and bless you and me today. All we have to do is ask, knowing that He already knows what we need even before we ask, and do exactly what He shows us to do. And one thing He certainly does not want us to do is worry.
Today, let me encourage you to cast all your cares on your Heavenly Father because you are His most valued and prized possession, and let Him be your source for provision and blessing.
