“But they could think of nothing, because all the people hung on every word he said.” Luke 19:48
In Luke chapter 19, the religious leaders had had enough of Jesus and were looking for any opportunity they could find to crucify Him. They were indignant and furious at His teaching, and as you can imagine, they boiled over with hate at His turning over the tables and clearing out the temple. Yet, as much as they hated Jesus, there was another group that hung on every word He said. This is what made it difficult for those religious leaders to crucify Jesus, so they hatched a plan to arrest Him in the dark of night.
Isn’t that interesting? Jesus’ same words were despised by one group, yet so embraced by another. This begs the question, which group are we in? In John 6:68, Peter said, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.” John 1:17 says, “For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.”
If and when something in our lives contradicts the Salvation Jesus came to give us, it’s then that we “hang on” to the words of Jesus even more tightly. It’s not His desire that we settle for less than He paid the price to give us, but that we “hang on” until we see His salvation manifest in that area.
Today, if you’ve been waiting to see the promises of God come to fruition in your life, then let me encourage you to just simply “hang on.”
